OzManouche 2022
OzManouche Festival 24th to 27th Nov 2022
At The Brisbane Jazz Club
OzManouche is a festival dedicated to jazz manouche held in Brisbane at the Brisbane Jazz Club from 24th to 27th November 2021. This year we will be celebrating our 17th consecutive year as Australia's premier gypsy jazz festival and continuing our dedication to Australian gypsy jazz artists by featuring the best and upcoming artists of the Australian gypsy jazz scene.
This year we welcome back interstate artists and welcome a special guest musician from Nouméa, New Caledonia.
Festival patron Ian Date returns, performing alongside the incomparable George Washingmachine in the classic musical pairing in Australian gypsy jazz.
We have our first international guest in two years with Michel Trabelsi from Nouméa. Michel is the founder of the Nouméa Gypsy Jazz Festival and has worked with The Rosenberg Trio, Angelo Debarre, Boulou and Elios Ferret, among others. Performing with Michel is an all-star line-up of Brisbane's finest gypsy jazz musicians; Camaron De La Vega, Shenzo Gregorio & Peter Walters.
Melbourne gypsy swing and French chanson masters La Mauvaise Réputation will bring their wild rhythms and passion for 1930s Parison hot jazz. And OzManouche Creative Director Cameron Jones will be debuting his solo trio this year and will be joined by long-time collaborator French-born, Brisbane-based vocalist Pauline Maudy (MZAZA, Tilly Bébé).
In addition to the acts on the main stage, OzManouche is setting up a second informal stage on the river deck of the Brisbane Jazz Club with an idea directly inspired by Festival Django Reinhardt in France. This idea is in keeping with the vision of festival founder, the late Ewan MacKenzie, who sought to provide a platform for upcoming artists and build an inclusive community of gypsy jazz musicians in Australia. Performing on the River Deck stage this year is Blue Reed from Cairns, The Gypsy Jazz Project from the ACT and a community jam group from Sydney that goes by the name of the Sydney Gypsies. An open and community-friendly jam session is scheduled for the festival's Sunday afternoon, led by New Zealand-based guitarist Sam Cooke.
OzManouche is offering two instrumental Workshops this year. A guitar workshop hosted by Michel Trabelsi and a violin workshop hosted by George Washingmachine.
